About Us

Mission

The Women Assurance Initiative (W.A.I) Organization is committed to empowering women in rural Sierra Leone with the skills to design and produce jewelry and accessories to sustain themselves as productive members of their communities.

Vision

To Empower women in rural areas in West Africa Leone by designing and producing jewelry and accessories to develop personally and professionally.

Founder & CEO

The Women Assurance Initiative Organization, which is shortly called WAI Organization, was founded by Millicent Adu Wai in October 2019. Millicent is a designer by profession that is passionate about helping the women in the rural areas of Sierra Leone to be independent while providing for their families through skills Learning Program. She is the CEO and also an Instructor in the Program.

Millicent teaches Jewelry Making, T-shirts Designing, Mugs, Tumblers, Keyholders, Mousepad, Refrigerator Magnets, Car & windows Decals etc. This need to help women came about when she had to represent Sierra Leone women in the African Union (AU) as the wife of the Sierra Leone Ambassador to the United States of America. Millicent being a Ghanaian by birth, had to be briefed as well researched women and how they gain their livelihood in Sierra Leone. During her study, she Learned that eighty percent of women in Sierra Leone had never been to school but depend on their husband and the males in their families for basic livelihood. She took it upon herself to start an organization to help to teach skills and personal development to empower them with self-sustainable skills.

Mrs. Wai or Mama Wai, as the students fondly call her, used to be a Seamstress/Cloth Designer from Ghana, became a Caregiver, Businesswoman and now running Adbou Global Designs, a T-shirt Designing Business in the United States. She is also the Treasurer for the Spouses of African Ambassadors Association, which had just been rebranded/rename Association of Spouses of African Ambassadors.
